food analysis
In mid October
Creation of a “Food” page to showcase your learning in the topic for this unit. It should include the following
In mid october our malama honua class was asked to track our eating habits for 3-4 weeks. We were to answer 3 simple questions was it organic, was it locally sourced, and was it procced. I personally notice i answered no to all or most on majority of the days. My diet consist of very quick grab and go meals and akahi pasta. After every meal i would have to track what i ate and it really opened my eyes to see that i was eating a lot of non organic, non local, and proccesed food. After looking over my classes data a lot of us are the same page that we are mostly eating proccessed food thats not locally sourced. I wish that more people could take notcie of this pattern like my class and myself has came to realiztion that we need to push for more locally sourced and organic food. Stop going out to eat procced food but eat a home cooked meal from scratch every once in a while. This task wont be easy for people that eat on the go like me but if we can continue to use this food journal and make a plan we would have a better underdtanding of what is going into our bodies
- History of the food sourcing/production in Hawaii
- Knowledge of the Carbon, Oxygen, Nitrogen Cycles and how they affect healthy systems.
- Systems approaches - all systems affect each other, things donʻt work in silos.
- Food Journal Data Analysis
- Placing a link to the food journal and then to make an analysis of what data you show and how that compared to overall class trends

- How might we be more responsible for our own food production?
- What steps could we take to be more more food secure on our island?
- Healthy Systems Have Limits, Think 1000 years, we are all responsible
- Documentation of your growing systems
- What kind of system have you been assigned?
- Hydroponics
- Aquaponics
- How does it work?
- What are you growing?
- What kind of system have you been assigned?
THE CYCLES
NITROGEN: the series of processes by which nitrogen and its compounds are interconverted in the environment and in living organisms, including nitrogen fixation and decomposition.
CARBON: the series of processes by which carbon compounds are interconverted in the environment, chiefly involving the incorporation of carbon dioxide into living tissue by photosynthesis and its return to the atmosphere through respiration, the decay of dead organisms, and the burning of fossil fuels.
OXYGEN:

OXYGEN:
- The Process of Carbon-Oxygen Cycle. There are four steps involved in the completion of this cycle. ...
- Photosynthesis. Plants undergo photosynthesis that helps them produce energy and food for themselves. ...
- Respiration. ...
- Combustion. ...
- Decomposition.
